Episode 27:  Riding the Waves of Anxiety and Guilt in Motherhood

When your values as a mother collide with your values as an individual, it feels complicated! How do you balance the primal pull to nurture and protect your child with the equally important need to grow, learn, and live fully as yourself?

In this personal solo episode, Stephanie opens up about her first trip away from her daughter after nearly two years of being side by side. It was a whirlwind of emotions feeling things like fear, anxiety, guilt, and love. On top, she had spiraling thoughts of mortality, absence, and the irreplaceable role of a mother.

Stephanie reflects on the way intrusive thoughts show up for parents, especially mothers, and how easy it is to slip into guilt for pursuing passions outside of parenthood. She speaks to the tension that exists between being present with your child and living in alignment with your own values. She highlights both the relief of connecting with other moms who share similar fears and the challenge of reconciling two seemingly opposing needs.

But it's totally okay to normalize your own anxieties, guilt, and conflicting values. And Stephanie reminds us that honoring every side of ourselves is part of redefining identity, whether in motherhood or in any season of life. In the end, Stephanie's encouragement to “ride the wave” of emotions instead of fighting them, gives you more space for both presence and growth, both family and individuality.

If you’ve ever felt torn between the different parts of who you are, this episode will leave you feeling seen, validated, and reminded that you are not alone in the messy, beautiful work of redefining yourself.
